MDAC 2.5 is the same version of MDAC that is installed by Microsoft Windows 2000. So, if you're using W2k, you should be good to go. I believe that MDAC 2.6 SP2 is the current non-XP release and that MDAC 2.7 is the current XP release. If you ever intend to use Microsoft SQL Server 2000, you must install MDAC 2.6

I installed mdac2.6 on my PC and I am having compatibility problems with my Database servers that only have SP1 or SP2 installed for SQL7.0. Perhaps you could open this MM in ISWI and change the dependency for MDAC 2.5 to MDAC 2.6. If you do make the change, make it "your own" by changing the name, the GUID, the author, etc. By doing so, you'll prevent possible conflicts with other vendor's installation that may use the original.
